I had my first softball game yesterday and it was actually pretty fun! Robyn came to the game, which was sweet and she was probably the only "fan" watching which was pretty cool. I was also unbelievably nervous before the coach would read off who was up to bat or who was going out in the field-I don't think I've ever been so nervous about playing a sports game before. Maybe it's because I've never played softball before.. or that all eyes are on you when the ball comes towards you, or you're up to bat. Either way, weird experience.
We played the Marvel team (yes, lots of jokes were made about them showing up as super heroes) and played a pretty good game, 8-5. They won. Apparently our last game we lost 19-2. That just seems wrong!!!
And for the big news (and a little bragging) I made a point in last night's game! Do they call them points in softball? Hm.. I also don't know any of the rules so people had to keep explaining everything. It's nice to have coaches next to you at each base :) So here's how it happened. First pitch, I hit the ball to the right- foul. Second pitch, I hit the ball to the left- runnnnnnnnnnnn. The 1st base guy was covering up the entire base (laying on it) so I had to jump over him. Very annoying. I don't know if I even touched the base but I think he was doing a pretty big foul (are there fouls in softball?) so I think they gave it to me. Then the next guy came up and I rannnnn to 2nd base then rann to 3rd base. (The coaches just kept saying, "if he hits it runnnnn!") Then the next guy came out and hit it way far out, so I ran home! Then ran into the catcher and shortly after that stopped shaking and got over my fear of softball.

Did I mention that my left arm is in agonizing pain from swinging a bat.. oh well
Great effort! Sounds like you will like softball. Just like baseball almost, only with a bigger softer ball and usually an extra player in the field. And, no, they don't have points, you scored a run. And no, they don't really have fouls, but if someone interfers with you the umpire will give you the base (or whatever). What position did you play in the field?
Hm, I wasn't paying attention when they told me my position so they just showed me where to go (a Claire move!). I was not 2nd base, but I was standing behind 2nd base halfway between it and the guy in the way far out field. Does that give you a clue? They never hit it my way, which was great!
Did you find any 5 leaf clovers?
I'm also so proud of you, my little schportler! And it was a SIX leaf clover, momberg.
