Isabelle's Birthday... and Another Event

My birthday (aka Thanksgiving) was great this year. Here are a few reasons why:
Spending yet another holiday with Germans.
Jumping off rocks with style and grace.Watching your birthday cake be made right before your eyes - with extra icing!!!Eating said cake.Finding an adorable puppy on a walk.
Wonderful Husband. Wonderful Family. Wonderful Food.

I am thankful for all of these things!

Selbystock 09

Last Practice

Sound Check

Shhh, I think the band is about to take the stage.

Yes, Selbystock 09, as named by Uncle Morgan, is in the books. NOTA (standing for none of the above and also the Hungarian word for song) played their first live performance to all standing ovations (partly because everyone had to stand - it was in the back yard). We got in about 16 songs in two sets and the audience drank up one keg of Yuengling and enough other stuff that they called for an encore (We gave them Smoke on the Water - hey, everybody doesn't have a Master's Degree in Music). More pictures will be forthcoming as we get them, but here is a start.

In case you're wondering, NOTA is Michael Muhlert, Drums - Zoran Rumboldt, bass - Mark Ahlman, bass - Pal Suranyi, guitars, keyboards, harmonica, bass, vocals - John Selby, guitars, bass, vocals - Bayne Selby, guitars, keyboards, harmonica, vocals. All songs were covers for this concert. And how did we feel afterwards - stoked, pyched, etc. We will play again.

Michael is an Interventional Radiology fellow, Zoran is a neuroradiology attending, Mark is a nuclear medicine fellow, Pal is a radiology resident, John is a college student, and I am me.

Nearing Thanksgiving (with pictures!)

I have a lot of photos to share from the past week, but just wanted to check in on the blog and make sure it's still running. (Go catch it!)
I have a lot of photos to share from the past week, but just wanted to check in on the blog and make sure it's still running. (Go catch it!)

David played his Masters' Recital yesterday with three other talented musicians and his parents came up for it. I have some video footage that I'll post soon so that you who weren't there can see what it was like. All of the compositions were written by David this past year and I think they were all great. The last song they played (which was incredibly sweet) was "I'm Confessin (That I Love You)" and I almost teared up. However, I didn't get my crying genes from Dad and Grandma and did not.

Also, we have had guests in and out of our apartment this week and after the recital when David's parents and the other musicians came in we could barely fit. Parents, please keep this in mind if you plan a huge family trip and bring 2 Germans along (which would be great). Our apartment is small! I think this weekend will be dedicated to cleaning ONLY. There are instruments in every nook and cranny of this place.

I also made a sweet potato pie this week that was really good. My friend, Anna Marie, came over and we had a deliciouso time making the pie and rolling out homemade (by AM) sourdough for pizzas. If you want to make a sweet potato pie for Thanksgiving please, please, please click this link and make it. It is THAT good. Believe me. I didn't put nutmeg in it but I did double the cinnamon and it was gut. Sehr gut. I also didn't have the time or space to make the crust so I just bought one at the grocery store.
Claire- this may be a good recipe for your German Thanksgiving..?? It's very easy and requires only a few ingredients.

Love you all... and please report back soon to the blog. It misses you all!

Mom's (Lyndamom) Birthday

We had a very nice not too big, not to small birthday celebration of Lynda over at 2602 Atlantic Ave. John got her a big book of horses that she can enjoy and paint from, Grandma/Papa/Aunt Beka got her a crockpot, and I gave her 3 kinds of bubblebath and a sketch book. We had carrot cake and ice cream.

Lyndamom loved it and wished you all could have been there. Thanks to Papa for these pictures. Oh, and John and I made homemade cards!

NYC visit

Mom and Aunt Gwenda are both in NYC and we are having a great time so far (well, except that I'm at work right now). Last night we had some Thai food and watched the end of David's gig in Greenwich Village and tonight we will see him play at the Living Room in the East Village! We're also hoping to have dinner with cousin Julie!

These are Mere's pictures from her iPhone in Central Park. As you can see we are having some really nice weather, if a bit cold! MORE PICTURES TO COME!

As promised.... (unfortunately, I was only sent pictures of myself and David via iPhone so it looks like a regular weekend in NYC for us.. hopefully more pictures with Auntie G and Mere will show up soon)
Flight of the Conchords Amphitheater Tour
David at his new job. (illegal picture)
Our 3rd Thai meal of the weekend!
