Soccer Experts

It's nice to see they are finally getting someone who really knows what they are talking about to write some expert columns on the World Cup. Way to go brother Jim!

Wimbledon

Oh, um, another sporting event is going on right now? I totally forgot... this is awkward. Can I make it up to you, Wimbledon? I did attend your event 2 years in a row. Does that count for anything? Does winning the tournament count for anything?!?! BOO YEA! Robyn and I totally dished it out today on the courts. We dove, we spun, we pranced.. and in the end we were victorious. Did I mention that we won during lunch break? (see ID tag on pocket) Pretty impressive...

We're going back tomorrow because we want to take a more enthusiastic picture. I'll keep you updated :)

GOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLL

I wish I could have actually watched this game in real time... but YEA! Team USA did us proud today.

World Cup - Part Zwei

Yes, when we watch Germany play on TV, even here in America, we put on our Germany shirts! So far we have been rewarded with excellent play by the Deutsche Mannschaft (ist das richtig?) Tomorrow morning we will arise early as Germany has the 7:30 a.m. game here.
Go Deutschland!

world cup and a time warp!

Today reminds me of a time not so long ago... (wait, was 2006 a long time ago?)... when Robyn, John and I were in the great city of Munich for the opening game of the WORLD CUP! It was a time when we came together with our German friends and cheered on team after team, and oftentime in the correct country! Though let's face it.. John and I were not happy to be in Italy when Italy won. BOOOO! Let's just forget the ending and get back to the good stuff. We laughed, cheered, cried.. it moved us, Bob.
Let's all break out into song now, shall we?

Vierundfunfzig , Vierundsiebzig, Neunzig, Zweitausendsechs,
ja so stimmen wir alle ein,
mit dem Herz in der Hand und der Leidenschaft im Bein
werden wir Weltmeister sein.

Don't forget to watch the big ENGLAND v. USA game today at 2:30 EST.

USA! USA! USA!

Memorial Day

Where to start? Memorial Day Weekend coincided with the opening of Spoleto and the arrival of many folks to our house. We kicked it off the week before with deciding to have work done on the house and yard (power wash, paint touch up, the inevitable finding of some dry rot needing repair, new washer and dryer (first in 30 years), and surprisingly Bermuda sod for the back yard. We'll get to the finding of the 30,000 honey bees in the eaves later. I have decided I can't do all these stories justice in the blog, so just take note and ask us about them next time we are together. Here is one, though. In preparation for (possibly) NOTA's last live concert on Saturday at our house, we practiced Wednesday night. Our drummer was a little late and among his many explanations was that he had found Gus wandering around outside when he drove up and had to let him back in the house. Approx. 45 minutes later one of his little kids came running into the band room saying, "There's a strange dog in the house!" So, we had two Gusses now. We called the name on the tag and he called us back the next morning, then came and got his dog (Dasher). He was very thankful and it turns out he ran a landscape service in Mt. Pleasant. So, he nicely gave us a good deal on the sod. It looks great and you can see it in some of the band pictures. BTW, Dasher returned two night later, apparently liking our hospitality. We had to send him home again.

On Saturday afternoon, in blazing heat and humidity, NOTA played, if I do say so, a great 3 set show. Set 1 - covers; Set 2 - originals; Set 3 - mixture. It was well attended and well received by all.

I haven't even touched on all the Spoleto events. David played with three bands at the Piccolo Spoleto jazz series. We saw them all and they were excellent! He also played other places around town in between. It is rumored that even Isabelle dusted off her violin to play a piece with the New Music Collective! And this morning they left in the car before 5 a.m. to drive to NYC where David has a gig tonight I believe. John left for Boone to check in with school and see his friends. So Mom and I are going to relax this weekend (except that I am on call).
