world cup and a time warp!

Today reminds me of a time not so long ago... (wait, was 2006 a long time ago?)... when Robyn, John and I were in the great city of Munich for the opening game of the WORLD CUP! It was a time when we came together with our German friends and cheered on team after team, and oftentime in the correct country! Though let's face it.. John and I were not happy to be in Italy when Italy won. BOOOO! Let's just forget the ending and get back to the good stuff. We laughed, cheered, cried.. it moved us, Bob.
Let's all break out into song now, shall we?

Vierundfunfzig , Vierundsiebzig, Neunzig, Zweitausendsechs,
ja so stimmen wir alle ein,
mit dem Herz in der Hand und der Leidenschaft im Bein
werden wir Weltmeister sein.

Don't forget to watch the big ENGLAND v. USA game today at 2:30 EST.

USA! USA! USA!

You sporting types are amazing. Here we are in the wilds of Appalachia wondering if the bluebirds will hatch this week or whatever . . . and you all are focused upon world events. What a diverse family! I'll go cook some corn pone now.

Egads! But a "pone" is a bread made of corn flour. Pone is probably an Algonquin word. Nowadays one rarely hears "cornpone" except from folks deep in the mountains. Cornbread is the more common name. If you bake or fry the cornmeal in a tubular shape (sort of shaped like an ear of corn) it is always called cornpone.
Hope that helps.

Yeah... why doesn't wiki just list your email on their site as a reference to everything?

And now I think I remmeber that name from literature... what classic book would it be in? Twain? Wilder?

I think I remember cornpone from a literary work too.. anybody? anybody?

Also, can everyone see the new little birdies on the blog? Peddie can't see them, but I am willing to bet that it is because she is out of the country.

I see birdies!!!!!!!! guess it was the school computer...

and I want to make a comment for Amy since the comp isn't letting her. She, for those who forget, is extremely good at finding things and very smart as well ;) (I read - and encourage you to do as well!)

"Also claire, you’re thinking of this http://www.paulgraham.com/cornpone.html so you were right on mark twain. Or at least that’s what I thought of at first. It won’t let me comment on the blog anymore…or at least today.

Isa—I see no birds either but silly work internet is silly…"
