NZ Update

This is the Palmerston North airport where I landed after flying down from Auckland. Transportation around this country is interesting. The USA is obviously based on cars for personal travel and Europe does well with trains. New Zealand actually seems to use planes to go from one city to another predominantly.

Here is the sign outside my hospital. No smoking has reached here too, sort of. Note that there is no smoking in the hospital or on the grounds.

Here you can see the standard group of patients who have wheeled out together for a smoke. Hmmmm. Would seem to be "on the grounds" to me.

We do have these giant things around us on all the hills. I will get up closer later and see if they are dangerous.

I am really getting into watching rugby, but their version of women's basketball, called Netball, is undoubtedly the strangest game I have ever seen. But it's BIG down under. Also, for completeness, read my comment to my last post.

My life in NZ

Welcome to New Zealand! This is what you greets you getting off the airplane in Auckland after a 12 hour flight from San Francisco. The flight was great! Boeing 777! Yea! This is the hospital where I will be working. It is right across the street from where I am living now in Palmerston North.
This is where I live. The Carramar motel.

This is my room, the downstairs portion. Bedroom and bathroom are up the stairs. They stocked it with plenty of food for me. Very nice.

Everything is going great so far. I'll tune in with more details soon. I got on skype as selbyjrnz and I am using my regular musc email. I am getting an NZ phone today, but probably won't be calling overseas with it. Love to all.

Speak Now...

David and I are preparing ourselves for the big move and have to get rid of a lot of things since we are moving into a smaller space.

That being said... this green oversized corduroy couch thing that we have all loved for so long needs to go.. and quick. So, if anybody still has strong sentimental feelings for it let me know so that we can arrange for you to come pick it up. (think about the costs involved guys.. are we really that attached?) David might be driving down in May so we could possibly do something with that. Anyway, give me some feedback, if not I'm going to try to sell it or leave it on a street corner somewhere...

Post Wedding - Pre New Zealand

Our last day, well at least my last day, in the USA started off with an early morning walk on the beach with both dogs (Lucy doing well), Lynda, Claire, and John. We then came back via the Grandparents house where we had a great breakfast, of course, of scrapple and eggs, much toast, and Papa with Oatmeal.

John then had to take off for a delivery for Sticky Fingers where he is now working. And Beka had to go to work at Goodwill. Mom and Claire got some stuff together for Nicole's wedding and helped me pack. And now it's time to head to the airport. Going USAir via San Francisco, then Air New Zealand to Auckland. Next post from me will be from the other side of the International Date Line. Love to all.

And Mama gives me last minute advice for NZ with Blackie at her side.

Wedding Couple Update

I am probably breaking some kind of blogging etiquette, but I am copying the comment I just made on the CampSelby blog here in order to maximize info transmission.

Well, I am just starting to come out of my haze. Many said this is one of the few things you will always remember, and I will of course, but right now it is still a blur. It was a fairy tale. Wedding Couple Update: After making their way off on the bikes for a night in Charleytown, they came out to SI the next day, saw some folks, then caught the train to Penn Station, NYC. We added them a mini roomette on the train at the last minute and they reported it was fantastic! Upon arrival the next morning in NYC, they got their car and drove to some B&B around Burlington, VT where they will be for a few days. Unfortunately Isabelle still is a little sick, but as Aunt Beka would say,"I'm making it". I will leave the next update to them although they may be, for once, young people without a computer!?!?

Guess what- you will never believe who just called me! The Boon arrived early and is now in NYC at Laguardia Airport! I guess he is still planning on flying to Charleston this weekend, but made a surprise visit to NYC first! Hurray! Be right back...

Oh, we just went ice skating in Central Park, it was great! Here's a picture for all you non-believers. I got braces again..
