H, A, double L O, double U, double E N, spells Halloween!
As you can see, I'm eggs-themed. I finally found something to do with all those cartons! (Niko was an Eis dealer... and had just got of work from the Eis café). There were some creative costumes there... lots of milk, mushrooms, eggplants. If you guys are curious abbys, than I can show more ;)

My Gesellenstück...
These are the two ideas I had, which I made small porfolios (booklets? Not sure what the correct translation for "mappe" is here):
The theme was "Für..." (For...) and as we had to do a design A and design B, I went with "Für... A" (Flatland) and "Für...B" (Color). Obviously I could have gone for Flatland and Color, but I though I would be (sort of ) clever, heeheehee. I'm doing the color brooches which will be filled with colored resin that will reflect off the shiny mirror-polished metal sheet a few millimeters behind it. The rest of the technicalities can be seen in the less than focused pictures (Sophie took better pictures and I'll get them eventually).
Anyway, I have 80 hours (Wednesday-Friday for the next 5 weeks) to make these two brooches. The Blue-ish one will stay silver and the Red-ish one will be gold plated. And now... off too polish some sheets of metal in preparation! ....yay?
(PS: As 'stressy' and scary as it is, I'm really looking forward to actually building these pieces. There's been a lot of build up.
PPS: My poll votes ended with "Lexington" and "Borrrring" as 1st and 2nd. Is everyone happy with this? Did anyone vote twice?

More News from my 'hood
Key lines, in case you don't want to read the article:“Two Hipsters Angrily Call Each Other ‘Hipster,’ ” a headline in The Onion put it most succinctly. And my personal favorite:
The Lower East Side and Williamsburg in New York, Capitol Hill in Seattle, Silver Lake in L.A., the Inner Mission in San Francisco: This is where the contemporary hipster first flourished. Over the years, there developed such a thing as a hipster style and range of art and finally, by extension, something like a characteristic attitude and Weltanschauung. Fundamentally, however, the hipster continues to be defined by the same tension faced by those early colonizers of Wicker Park. The hipster is that person, overlapping with the intentional dropout or the unintentionally declassed individual—the neo-bohemian, the vegan or bicyclist or skatepunk, the would-be blue-collar or postracial twentysomething, the starving artist or graduate student—who in fact aligns himself both with rebel subculture and with the dominant class, and thus opens up a poisonous conduit between the two.
The hipster moment did not produce artists, but tattoo artists. It did not yield a great literature, but it made good use of fonts.

Space Travel
It seems that space travel is getting closer than I had ever imagined in my lifetime and it's starting to scare me. Why? Well, as a young child Dad would mention how if he had the chance to go to the moon he would take it in an instant. Having a somewhat great fear of space (am I really a Selby?) his answer terrified me. P.S. This is not your Christmas present.

New York - ASAP

A New Zealand bar in Manhattan: Nelson Blue!
You all must come up here so we can test it out and watch some Rugby!
Since we all can't visit Nelson, New Zealand, we brought Nelson to YOU!! Nelson Blue is New York's first New Zealand restaurant and bar. Resident Kiwi, Pauli Morgan, and co-owners, Michelle Casano and Vanessa Shum, opened shop around the corner from the South Street Seaport. This up-and-coming neighborhood couldn't have asked for a better addition.
We offer Maori-inspired decor and New Zealand-inspired menus. We've got outdoor seating in the summer and a great view of the Brooklyn Bridge always. Our fun & friendly staff will knowledgeably recommend from our southern hemisphere wines, brews from all over and mouth-watering food. Our Chef, Eric Lind, crafted a menu that takes good advantage of the New Zealand ingredients we have flown in. Make sure to try our Lollipop Lamb Chops and Green-Lipped Mussels.
