A day in the life in Hanau...

Katherine Lobe and I with the Brothers Grimm.
(I don't think anything warranting turned heads was actually happening behind us)

You know when you watch movies about people in little towns where they go around saying "hey fred, mornin' sally, great game last night, huh, jack?" and you think.... yeaaaah, that doesn't actually happen? I, at least, think that. Life may have proven me false once again, however, as the following occurred yesterday:

-picked up wool for friend (with friend) during lunch break, recognized every homeless person and their dog on the way, as well as several other hanau residents.

-Had coffee at Vince's where the majority of outside-table sitters were school-mates, and I was greeted in english by Vince because he likes to practice and knows where I'm from. Also got automatic discount because he knows I'm a ZA student.

-after school, picked up medicine for my neighbor, was greeted by the apotheke-lady because she goes to my gym and we chat several times a week (making it too late to ask her name! I've known her for a year now!). Chatted.

-was greeted by name by Gabi, the cashier at REWE, who chatted with me and gave me extra points, asked where I was on wednesday because she didn't see me with my soccer group during the time she has volleyball practice (I was still working on jewelry)

-waved (on bike) to the stone-setting teacher (on bike) as I rode home.

etc. Maybe I have made my little niche here ;) Anyway, it was a funny observation. More happened, but I feel like it's getting boring and I need to get to another silversmithing exhibition!

Peddie, I love this image! You are the Belle of Hanau! (as in Beauty and the Beast.. not ME..or Twilight)

I can totally picture this happening too.. maybe you should move to NYC so I can befriend all my neighbors. We have another bedroom :) :) :)

There is NOTHING like small town life! And remember, I speak from vast experience (including Weems!)

Heehee... thanks for the nods to the different belles anyway - you are too funny ;) And it's true - if Unc Him can make it in Weems and I can make it in Hanau... maybe we really can take the big city by friendliness!!!

PS: Listening to a lot of Jump, Little Children and Nickel Creek lately it seems... makes me think of Christmas and home. I still like Charleston ;)

You can really write. Well done, Clairebo.

Hehe, I never consider my posts much of writing (I think Isabelle is a lot cleverer... though she posts more, so I guess we don't comment on it as often ;)

Papa gave me the old-man-aim (literally!) comment! I got an email from him! Yaaaay!

I seriously laughed out loud when I read this the other day.

David was in the other room and yelled "Why are you laughing??".. I guess I don't normally laugh?

Anyway, I couldn't really explain why and he didn't get it. Oh well!

(still laughing - nosePod)
