Late breaking news from New York City. Isabelle and David are on the scene with an update!

Early at 8am (yes, that is early for a Sunday) we were on the scene ready to shoot some photos and prove that this storm was worth all the preparations! We ventured first down Bedford Ave. in hopes of seeing some flooding at Grand St. Park which overlooks the East River (see Xmas photo from last year). David was impressed that the bodega on South 2nd was closed after hearing reports last night that it would not be closing. Big News! And in reality, that was probably the most surprising thing of this entire storm. We really didn't think that place would close. The streets were empty, but we did see a few cars drive past (including police cars) and saw the same 3 people in a few different spots. Granted, for Williamsburg at 8am on Sunday you normally wouldn't find anyone. We are in the land of late sleeping hipsters after all.
Moving on. We then walked to the Domino factory to see if there was flooding. I approached the gate for a photo and immediately a police car turned on it's sirens and told us to get away from the fence (and go home!). Next, David decided to take a quick beach vacation:
Later in the day (around 3pm) we walked farther down Bedford Ave. so that we could check out our neighborhood park. This walk was much more crowded, lots of places opened, and people were out on the streets. It was a beautiful day! Please notice the Star of David and "Oy Vey" taped on the windows.
Some places stayed boarded up, but opened the front door for business. Here is Connecticut Muffin and Blackbird Cafe.

Finally, the park. It was flooded in the place is always is when it rains and a few people were flying kites. There were some broken tree limbs and a huge tree fell down, but other than that not much to report.
People were playing tennis on the tennis courts on the right side of the photo below:
Caution tape in the park and it's not for a murder! Bad joke? Bad joke. Sorry, Mom and Dad.
Bottom line. We survived Irene!
...
I forgot (intentionally) to mention the devastation that hit the creepy stuffed animal park. It was intense. The gorilla fell off his chair and pink unicorn was separated from it's baby. If only they had evacuated!

Thank you for this enjoyable post. Glad you "weathered" the storm! Next time evacuate to coastal SC. hahaha
I wish I could click on that stuffed animal park picture to make it big! Did you take more?
Good post-storm adventure though. Applauds.
(also... the tree that fell down with the caution tape... was it really just that sprig?)
Very amiable post! Congrats on surviving. No matter what the Mon. morning qtrbks say, I think the preparations were necessary!
