Mittelaltermarkt!

While you guys were hurricaning it out, I was getting a little further integrated into Freinsheim, where the other jewelry store is that I will be working at more now. There was an annual "middle ages market" or what we would probably call a renaissance fest, and I decided to have a peek into what was going on.

I first realized a parade might be happening when some stilt-walkers went by the shop. Can you spy one here?

yeah, there...

Awesome band. Fun fact... bagpipes = dudelsac.

Feel kinda like you live in warcraft here, sometimes...

The tumultuous sky and my shop (under the grape vines on the right!)

Old city cuteness.

More old city cuteness. I waited for a lady with an umbrella for this one... for mom... maybe to paint.

I found a hanauer goldsmith! "Smith your own silver ring!"

He had a pretty cool tent...
I unfortunately didn't stay for all the fire-things going on on the other field later that night because 1. I was alone (these things are best enjoyed with one to more people) and 2. I used my raincoat and umbrella twice simply within the confines of the markt, always interspersed with bright sunshine where I would have to pack my coat away again. Not great weather (no wimpy Irene, but still...).  I put a few more pictures just of Freinsheim on the claireware blog, btw.

Looks like fun . . . and a cool town! We've only been to one medieval kind of thing (accidentally stumbled upon it near Savannah), but had a blast.

Ohhh, I like this and want to visit this cute medieval "willage"! This seems a lot more fun than a hurricane. I think I might take up the Dudelsac....does NOTA need one??

HEhe... they carried themselves pretty well on the stilts, actually (the blue was the woman and the red was the man. I tink they were planets and the sun... also, that guy had a huge beer belly (no judging) and could still walk stilts so... feel inspired.)

It was incredibly cute and, if I'm here next year, I really probably will take some people to see the firey stuff at night. One of my favorite things really was just following the parade through the "innen-altstadt" and really do go to the claireware blog because I took a few pictures with mom in mind.

and yes... heh... dudelsac. I still giggle everytime (it's like they don't realize how rediculous it sounds!).
