The counterpoint

Dare I say it? Outside the box! The counterpoint essay is spot on. The market is for readers. This does NOT mean the end of publishing, but it DOES mean a gigantic shift in the bindery!

Look at parallel success storys in all models of "delivery" systems, from medication to Fed Ex.

The future is brighter than you think, but the future is not what it used to be!

Actually, now that I read the essays, I like number 1, although counterpoint also had good points. Bottom line for me is that we are in a rare time of generational transition due to technology that is unprecedented in our lifetime (yes we had long hair, etc, but nothing like this). Look at politics, sports, entertainment, education, etc, etc, - the way people under 30 do it is worlds away from how people over 30 do it. It has led me to believe that if I was in charge of anything, say MUSC, I would immediately put young people in ALL important positions (Dean, Provost, Chairs, etc) with a great of wise oldsters to have keep them in check (veto power). Truth is though, the oldsters just can't think like a young person in the technology regard, with exceptions of course. Hmmm, maybe this means Isabelle should immediately become president of S & S.

I could handle that.
