Uncle Morgan Retires

This past weekend saw the first of the "next generation" of our families to retire.  Yes, Morgan Williamson had put in his 20 years (really more) with the U.S. Army and it was time.  On Friday night, the Grandparents Williamson arrived having been driven down by Uncle Chuck.  The next day, after some quick morning surfing by me, we headed down to Savannah.  Uncle Chuck went ahead to ostensibly "help Morgan work on cars".  As we pulled into the neighborhood, Uncles Chuck and Morgan were coming out in one of the many Williamson automobiles.  Later, John and I took out the Alante and the MGB.  Although most activities were back at the homestead.  John remembered his old love of tetherball and he and Olivia had a big match.
Then Olivia produced her geckos which amused everyone ( particularly J and O) for quite a while.  Can you find them in this picture? (No, not J and O! The geckos, of course)
Well, here they are close up.  I forget the names, but Olivia can tell you.  You might be able to tell that one is missing a tail.  They grow new ones if they come off.  Not sure what happens to the old one, but Uncle Morgan says there is a new appetizer delicacy at his house that they get every month or so.  Hmmmmm.
Sleeping arrangements were Grandparents in the master bedroom (they seemed to like their lofty perch), me and Mom in the camper, Uncle Chuck, Uncle Morgan, and John on sofas in living room.  Worked for me.
And then it was time to head to Ft Stewart for the retirement party.  Many testimonials were given about Morgan from both the highest ranking and the lowest ranking, yet all had in common that Morgan was the great guy, leader, and boss that we all know he is.  He also got some kind of rare award that is really big and looks like something you only get for being in the French Foreign Legion or something.
The next day Uncle Chuck took off with his parents to head back to KY, which interestingly is by way of I-25 rather than I-75.  The rest of us decided to give Uncle Mo's big jet skis a try. There were some of the usual engineering adventures including changing a tire on the golf cart, trying to start one of the jet skis by jumping it from the other jet ski, and finally charging the jet ski from a battery charger Uncle Mo had on hand.  But then we were off.  Water was as smooth as it gets and we went all the way out to St. Catherine's Island where we found "friendlies" with beer.
We relaxed, swam, told stories for a couple of hours.  Weather was perfect.

And then it was time to say good-bye and head back.  Trip back was a little bumpier, but uneventful.  In summary, a good time was had by all.  When last seen, Uncle Morgan was laying on the couch with a beer in retirement with Pam trying to vacuum under his feet and telling him to get out of the house and go do something, anything. (Just kidding - I believe he goes back to work as a civilian this week).
So, from the whole family --- Congratulations, Uncle Mo!
